Muffingate at the Huffpost correction

Sometimes morons just need to be fisked and the mood just strikes. Huffpo tries to clear the DOJ in Muffingate by asserting that it was a $16 continental breakfast and not just a muffin.

Re: $16 muffin really a $16 continental breakfast.

A continental breakfast is essentially a muffin + coffee or tea. It's not a very big change and you can google "continental breakfast price" to get a feel for what the cost is. It's $5-$7 normally. So the $16 charge is somewhere between 2x-3x the normal price. Wow, that correction makes me feel so much better about the DOJ's cost controls.

  1. “Hilton Breakfast Menu

    continental breakfast 10.95
Freshly Baked Breads, Muffins & Pastries, Seasonal Fresh Fruit & Yogurts, Assorted Cereals with sliced fruit,
Irish Cut Oatmeal with honey & raisins. Accompanied by choice of fruit juice and hot morning beverages."

Now this is the Continental Breakfast. There are also Gold Continental Breakfasts which are the $16 ones.

You are a ridiculous country growing more ridiculous by the minute. You will happily give your rich vast sums while nickle and dimeing the general population into poverty.

    Nice system you have there.

  2. DOJ conference attendees are not "the general population" and paying for the ordinary breakfast and not the deluxe ones when we're spending more than a trillion that we don't have is not "nickle and dimeing the general population into poverty".

So basically they overspent by 40% and thus should have a fiscal prudence parade in their honor. I think not. The spending attitude is horrible and it doesn't just show up in $5-$10 breakfast overpayments. It shows up in millions of loan guarantees. It shows up in billions of overspending on programs that should have been cut long ago. Throughout it all remains the same constant, lousy, spendthrift attitude.
