Barack Obama Launches 2012 Candidacy

Well, he's in, if anybody had any doubt. Barack Obama is sending out e-mail and other electronic notifications that he's filing papers today to launch his candidacy for the 2012 presidential term. He also wants everybody to watch this video.

It's an interesting video. My favorite bit was their older white guy figure making the pitch that Obama has respect and trust and deserves re-election even if you don't agree with him. It accurately hits where Obama's greatest vulnerability and opportunity is. If he can make his GOP opponent not worthy of trust, drive up his negatives, while retaining the trust of enough people, Obama wins. The GOP's major task is to do the opposite.

  1. At the moment Obama has no real opponent. There does not seem to be one.

  2. Most US presidential re-election campaigns end up being referendums on the incumbent's performance. That would make President Obama his biggest opponent.

  3. True enough but you need a candidate and what you have on deck is kinda pitiful.

  4. I think Daniels will do well. By no means is he "pitiful". I like what I see so far in Herman Cain. Haley Barbour has a good shot, I think. That's 3 candidates that struck me as substantial possible nominees for the GOP in 2012 and I haven't really engaged so I couldn't tell you much about somebody like Huntsman.

  5. Hadn't really looked at the second string. Daniels looks pretty good actually.

The first string needs to get out of the way. Some will need to be pushed.

  6. A sitting governor, a former governor and former head of the Governor's association, a very rich minority businessman, none of these are 2nd string. Who did you think was first string?

  7. Well to most of the world that would be:

Palin, Romney, Gingrich, Huckabee, Pawlenty, ... giggle Trump.

I dunno they seem to be the most exposed on TV. Well the bits I see on da internet anyway.

  8. Palin's not running, Romney's got Masscare around his neck, Gingrich is a campaign disaster, Huckabee's also not running, and Pawlenty... well Pawlenty might be ok. Trump's not even on the radar.

Who are you listening to if you're coming up with this list?

  11. Both the left and the right see vanity candidates pop up. Trump is having fun and so are a lot of people who currently support him.

  12. Trump's about shot himself with the conservatives because he supports the Kelo decision so it looks like that's working out. All he's got left is media support.
